glass with printing

PRINTING WITH LIGHT - October 2008

Over the past year, glass artist Louis Thompson at Peter Layton’s London Glassblowing Workshop has been working with printmaker Shelley James, to develop and run an intensive two-day course to share combined printing and blowing  techniques. Divided over two weekends, a small group of up to eight students take initial ideas through to finished pieces in glass, to explore a range of creative and technical possibilities. The optical, transparent and textural qualities of the medium offer huge scope for new approaches to composition and the creation of dynamic multi-layered objects.
The course has proved a sell-out success, with students travelling from all over the country to take part in the last session.  All found the experience rewarding and exciting, commenting on the open, supportive atmosphere, the chance to share ideas with professionals from other fields and to learn practical, transferable skills.

The next course is to take place in 2009
