Marie Worre Hastrup

Holm

I studied glass at The International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill for one year from 1992, after which I returned to Denmark to work for Søren Ringgård until 1995.

My long-term relationship with London Glassblowing started in 1996, during which the development of my own work has always played a major role and I have exhibited widely throughout.

Some periods were spent away from the workshop;
I studied Fine Art from 1998 – 2003 starting with a scholarship with oil-painter Oliver Bevan and culminating in a degree from Camberwell College of Arts.
For 3 months in 2004 I worked at Sigrun O. Einarsdottir’s glass studio in Iceland.
During 2005 I produced my own work in Denmark alongside organising the international exhibition Wearing Glass with 27fishes in the UK. In May 2006 I was Artist in Residence at Corning Museum of Glass, USA and in 2008 I curated the Bombay Sappphire Prize 2008 exhibition in Milan and the Global Final of the Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass competition, London Design Week.

I create blown glass objects, ranging from striking and seductive sculptural work to aesthetic, yet highly functional items.
Both my Scandinavian background and British Fine Art education influence my work. The glass bears evidence of minimalist simplicity with great sympathy for the qualities of the material and questions of functionality and concept.
