Arrival of Spring

‘Working in glass, these paintings presented an enormous challenge; how to convey some sense of the complexity and exuberance of Hockney’s Woldgate Woods series.  One of the challenges was how to encapsulate Hockney’s use of vast scale, in a relatively small piece of blown glass.  My resolution involved creating multi-layered green/blue backgrounds over which to apply the vertical elements that represent trees and branches, along with spots and colour for the leaves and flowers.  It is very rewarding when people comment on the depth they see in these pieces.’
